Why, as an Australian with zero Japanese heritage, would I use a Japanese mythological character for a business name?
The main reason is that my surname, Memory, doesn't play well with search engines. Look for any first name with it and you'll primarily find obituaries. Add "guitars" and you'll find obituaries for people who played guitar. Not the best start.
The name "Oni" was suggested and it fit the criteria - 2 or 3 syllables and not in use. I researched the meaning and it resonated with me. There are certain aspects of Japanese thinking that I find challenging and inspiring. The same applies to other cultures, attitudes and aesthetic movements.
